Verruca Treatments

Book an appointment today to allow our experienced podiatrists to assess the verruca and advise on the appropriate treatment options for you.

What is a verruca?

Verrucae are a common issue that many people will experience at some point in their lives. A verruca is a type of wart which is caused by the HPV virus, and typically occurs around the toes or on the soles of the feet. A person can catch a verruca through direct skin-to-skin contact, or if the skin comes into contact with a contaminated surface. You are more likely to catch a verruca in places where people walk barefoot, and in damp environments such as at swimming pools, gyms or public showers.

Some people find that their verrucae go away on their own over time. However, in some cases they can begin to cause pain or discomfort and may be slow to improve without treatment.

Book an appointment today

Step 1:

Book a routine podiatry appointment. This enables the podiatrist to assess the verrucae, check your medical history and advise on the appropriate course of treatment for you. (Verrucae can also be reduced during this appointment to offer some relief if causing discomfort).

Step 2:

Depending on the advice of the podiatrist, you can then book an appointment for either of the following treatments:

VERRUTOP
TREATMENT

£42.00 per application

Verrutop is a topical solution which is applied directly to the skin of the verrucae. It is a painless procedure with a high clearance rate. Before the solution is applied, the hard skin on top of the verruca is filed down to allow the solution to better penetrate the affected skin. Depending on the severity of the verrucae and each individual’s response to treatment, several applications may be required to achieve the desired results.

An information leaflet can be provided on request.

VERRUCA
NEEDLING

£135.00

Verruca needling is an innovative form of soft tissue therapy, typically carried out painlessly using local anaesthetic. A needle is then used to carefully puncture the skin of the verrucae in multiple places, in order to create a controlled inflammatory response. This helps stimulate the immune system to recognise and attack the virus under the skin that has caused the verruca to occur.

Needling has a high success rate and typically only requires one (or occasionally two) treatments. Find out more about needling in the FAQ section below.

Verruca Treatments FAQs

  • Verruca needling (also known as Falknor’s needling) is an innovative form of soft tissue therapy in which a needle is used to puncture the skin of the verruca(e). This procedure is designed to create a controlled inflammatory response, engaging your body’s own immune system to recognise and attack the virus which causes the verruca.

  • During the procedure, local anaesthetic is administered to numb the area. A sterile needle is then used to puncture the skin of the verruca in multiple places. This helps to break down the verruca tissue, and forces the viral particles down into the fatty tissue underneath. As this tissue is rich in immune regulators, this allows your body’s immune system to identify the virus under the skin and begin to break down the verruca.

  • Verruca needling has a high success rate. People typically find that one (or occasionally two) treatments is enough to resolve the issue. For more information on healing time and aftercare, you can request a copy of one of our verruca needling leaflets, which can be provided by email or collected at the clinic.

  • Verruca needling costs £135.00. This includes two follow-up appointments to assess healing and progress after the procedure.

  • Before a verruca needling appointment can be booked, you will first need to book a routine appointment. This is to enable the podiatrist to confirm the diagnosis, and assess the verruca to determine the most appropriate course of treatment. If you have never been to Johnston Podiatry before, you will need to fill out a patient form before attending.
