Jean graduated from Glasgow school of Chiropody in 1986, before spending two years in North Yorkshire working for the NHS. Following that, she spent a year backpacking in Australia before returning to Glasgow and working with the NHS for 7 years. In 1997, Jean founded Johnston Chiropody (now Johnston Podiatry). The business grew rapidly and now has a team of experienced, skillful podiatrists who are all registered with both the Royal College of Podiatry and the Health and Care Professions Council.

Jean is a long-time supporter of the Glasgow Warriors, and in her free time enjoys travelling and spending time outdoors.
